Telehealth Consultations

What is a telehealth consultation?

Telehealth consultation are consultations with your health professional via a video call on either a computer or on your mobile phone.

We aim to offer the same level of confidentiality standards as face-to-face consultations. However, it will be your responsibility to ensure that your privacy and confidentiality is preserved where you are, for example by making sure that you cannot be overheard while having the remote consultation and dressed appropriately.

A successful telehealth consultation will depend on our ability to communicate clearly with each other, so please be prepared to spend more time than usual describing your physical condition in detail. Please also check that you will have sufficient broadband speed or phone signal to enable the consultation to proceed without disruption.

How can you have an assessment via Telehealth?

Physiotherapy is often considered “hands on”, however during a face to face consultation a large about of information is gathered which enables us to create a list of diagnoses for your problem. The physical examination helps to narrow this list down. Treatment usually includes information, advice and education about your problem, how to modify your normal activities, how long it may take to improve,  and advice of the best direction for creating a rehabilitation plan. All of this can take place via telehealth with a few modifications. Some of the tests we normally perform you will be able to complete yourself, however practically some tests cannot be performed. We will do our utmost to provide you with the best care we can until normal consultations are possble again.

We will continue to adhere to all physiotherapy standards of care.

What do I need for a Telehealth consultation?

Mark's Telehealth consultations will place using a secure platform called Zoom.  You will need a laptop, IPad, computer or phone with a camera, be appropriately dressed for an examination and have enough space for us to see your body moving. I have used Zoom for online video conferencing for some time and always been happy with it. Concerns over security have been addressed by Zoom. Se the detailed Blog for details. Personally I think they are on the job and doing well. I will still be using that platform. Here's the link: https://blog.zoom.us/wordpress/2020/04/01/a-message-to-our-users.Our reception staff will send you a secure private link prior to your consultation and ensure you are able to connect.

Aim to be online a few minutes before your consultation.

How will I pay for my consultation?

Our ordinary charges will apply and you can make a payment by internet banking. ACC have approved Telehealth appointments so for specialist physiotherapy consultations, no co-payment is expected if there is an active and valid ACC claim, and you are referred by a licensed health care practioner.
